A Frozen Forest
China has announced that it will build a high-frequency radar in Antarctica. This radar will be composed of 20 antenna units (each 20 meters high), including 16 units for the main antenna and 4 units for the auxiliary antenna.
According to the US military, this installation would be able to jam and interfere with US satellites. This is all in accordance with a recent PLA (Peoples Liberation Army) report, which promoted the development of ASAT systems, which is a part of the larger Chinese plan to develop space weapons of both defensive and offensive nature.
The Chinese see the development of Space weapons as their way of defeating the US military. It is widely known that Space is the weak point of the US (mostly due to laws that have prevented the militarization of space), and at the same time the part of the battle space we most depend on in today’s modern combat.

I don't know if the system China has in mind will jam our satalites or not - but I do know that we will complain that it will even if it won't. Sounds silly, but that is the only reasonable way to keep the PLA from knowing if it will or not.
Politics aside for a moment, we have had the ability to harden our systems against jamming for years, and if we haven't ... well then, it is our own fault (or rather, the fault of our lawmakers, who would rather line their pockets with ill gotten money from casinoes than do the right thing).
The treaties dealing with space (and Antartica, BTW) prevent deploying offensive weapons into orbit. There are no legal obsticals about what kind of communications gear can be put into orbit. Satalite and Antisatalite(ASAT) warfare has been a topic of intrest to stratigic planners for at least 30 years.
